VOIP Phone Systems Archives

We have a small’ish network, maybe 15 connections total. We have a server (Tiger) but only use it for file storage. It is just one more computer on the network. We run through a Cisco ethernet switch, then through an Edgemark that manages data traffic for our Speakeasy VoIP phone system. We’re having call problems, and Speakeasy says that our network is at 100% though we aren’t doing any uploads. Could be one or more computers have malware of some kind. Question – how can I monitor the Internet activity and determine where the activity is coming from?

I started working as a phone sex operator and the call center is a third party call systems (When a client calls you, he goes through the internet to connect to the main call system. The call system calls him, then patches his number through to a randomly assigned 1-800 number. When that connects, it then patches the main call through to your number — so this means that the original number goes through 2-3 other numbers to connect) I have time warner and It worked yesterday but today I have not gotten one call and I wonder if it is because it is a slow day or because of my phone company.

VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol, this product is typically used in businesses that have a lot of employees on the phone, and instead of using a typical telephone, they use the VOiP system. However, I’m wondering if those who use it hate it? Or on the other hand, do those who like it find it a great advantage?
Thank you David T for explaining all that to me. It’s nice to have it in simple terms. From the sounds of it, it appears that information packets get lost causing callers to have to repeat themselves as they speak. This is a bad thing for me, so I think that I won’t be using Voip until the technology improves.

Both phone systems are made be GE, but they are two different models. I have VOIP so I can only connect one base to the "computer", (I’d rather not have two bases in one room), so is there anyway that I can connect one type of handset to a different type of base.

Is there any way to reconfigure how the phones are connected?

I have a small business that I would like to run VOIP system in but: a) I don’t want to pay thousands of dollars for such system and b) I’m renting an old office space that does not have LAN capabilities and I’m having a hard time negotiating a deal with the property manager.
How would I go about a Wireless IP phone system that would allow me to run my business better and not go through construction, wiring closet, wall ethernet ports, etc
I’ve been looking at some Wireless IP phones but I don’t think it is as simple as turn on a wireless IP phone, connect it to your wireless router, and you are all set. Can someone give me an idea on what other equipments are needed?

My office network is 10.0.1.X IP and a 255.255.255.0 subnet, we are growing fast and adding a new VoIP phone system adding 90+ more devices to my network. I want to add a 2nt network 10.0.2.X but I need bot networks to talk, what can I do to get this to work? Change the subnet mask?

I don’t have a Windows computer. my Operating System is debian/GNU Linux (5.0)

so, anyway… I was just wondering how I could do this..I’m pretty sure it can be done.. if you need more information just let me know. I’ll add more details.
