I got a new alarm system installed today. I am using VoIP (Vonage). The installer said that I should make sure always that the alarm system cable is attached serially to the system. In other words, he wants the phone line going into the alarm system first, and then to the actual phone box. That’s all well and good, but he didn’t know why I should do this. Now I am not stupid and don’t want to go against what the installer said. However, when the system is connected parallely (phone line-> Alarm system->Phone) the calls have a delay when they are made back to back. For example, when I call my phone twice in a span of 10 seconds, the second call gets a fax tone (its not really a fax tone, but it sounds like it) instead of going to the voicemail. Now, if I wait longer than 10 seconds, everything is fine. But when I connect the phone parallely, everything is fine. OR, if I connect it serially the other w (line->phone->alarm) everything works fine. Do you know what is causing this?
